Title IX at CWU

Welcome to the Title IX webpage, a resource on sexual misconduct for students, faculty, staff, and visitors who are part of the Central Washington University community. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” CWU is committed to providing a learning, working, and living environment that promotes personal integrity, civility and mutual respect in an environment free of sexual misconduct and discrimination. Sexual discrimination violates an individual’s fundamental rights and personal dignity. CWU considers sexual discrimination in all its forms to be a serious offense. This resource refers to all forms of sexual discrimination, including: sexual harassment, sexual assault, and sexual violence by employees, students, or third parties. (Title 20 U.S.C. Sections 1681-1688).

Committee Charge: The Title IX Committee is a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team charged with advancing a university culture of respect, responsibility, and safety and ensuring positive compliance with Title IX and other laws, regulations and policies related to sexual and gender-based issues. The Title IX Committee provides recommendations and information to the university administration to inform policy, identify services, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

When should I contact the Title IX Coordinator?

The Title IX Coordinator can answer any questions you have about discrimination grievance policies and procedures.
Additionally, if you believe the University did not give you all of your rights or did not give you due process throughout the process, the Title IX Coordinator would be a good place to start with filing a complaint.

Office for Civil Rights

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces various federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination in educational institutions, programs and/or activities that receive federal financial assistance from the Department of Education. Sex discrimination is prohibited by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
