New Student/Transfer Student Housing Application
- The Housing Application will open early for incoming fall 2023 freshmen who have accepted their admission to CWU. Application opens Monday, November 14, 2022 through December 22, 2022.
- Early room selection for the students who are eligible to apply during this early application time frame will be in mid-January.
- New students, transfer students, and previous on-campus residents can sign up for fall 2023 housing starting on January 30, 2023.
- A student must accept their admission to CWU before they can begin signing up for housing.
- All first year students are required to live on campus for one full academic year.
- Application Steps - 18 Years and Older
Follow these steps to apply for On-Campus Housing
- Login to the MyHousing Portal. (If you get a black spinning circle, refresh your browser, and try again.)
- Click on the "Applications" tab on the left side of the page.
- Select the "Residence Hall First Year (Fall 2023)" application.
- Complete all required sections of the application, including emergency contact.
- Pay the $200 application fee. ($100 non-refundable, $100 will be applied towards your housing bill)
This completes your housing application and contract. Once these steps are complete, your room selection will proceed as indicated below.
Room Selection
- Incoming Students for Winter Quarter 2023 - Your room assignment will be available in MyHousing approximately two (2) weeks after you complete your application.
- Returning Residents for Fall 2023 - Room self-selection will be available starting January 4, 2023, and will remain open through July 2023.
- Early Admission Incoming Freshmen for Fall 2023 - If you completed an early housing application between Nov. 7 - Dec. 22, 2022, you will be eligible to select your room in MyHousing from January 23 - 27, 2023.
- Fall 2023 Room Selection - Room self-selection opens to all incoming students on January 30, 2023.

- Application Steps - Under 18 Years Old
Students who are younger than 18 years-of-age may wait until they turn 18 to complete their Housing application, or they may proceed with the steps below with the assistance of a parent or guardian.
- Login to the MyHousing Portal. (If you get a black spinning circle, refresh your browser, and try again.)
- Click on the "Applications" tab on the left side of the page.
- Select the "Residence Hall First Year (Fall 2023)" application.
- Complete all required sections of the application.
- Select your room.
- Your guardian will receive an email with a verification code.
- The guardian will click on the link provided in the email and enter the verification code to formally complete your housing application.
This completes your housing application and contract. Once these steps are complete, your room selection will proceed as indicated below.

- Living Learning Community Application Steps
Follow these steps to secure a room in one of our Living Learning Communities:
- Complete a housing application for the applicable academic year in MyHousing.
- Self-select a room in any available residence hall. This will ensure that you have a room for the year if your LLC of choice is full or has a wait list.
- Complete the application for the Living Learning Community you are interested in living in. The brief application form asks for your name, CWU email address, and offers a space to put any questions or comments on your application.
- Your LLC application will be reviewed. This usually takes one week or less.
- Students approved to join an LLC will receive an email notification via their CWU email informing them they are now able to select a room within the LLC.
- Login to MyHousing and navigate to the room selection menu. You will now be able to select a room in the LLC's designated building/floor.
A few notes on LLC room selection:
- After being accepted to an LLC, it will be up to the student if they follow through and select a room in the designated LLC space. If a room is not selected in the LLC space during self-selection, their room in the LLC will be made available to other students.
- LLC spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
First-Year Housing Exception Request
If you are an incoming student and would like to request an exception to the on-campus residency requirement, please download the Exception Request Form, fill it out, and return it to Housing@cwu.edu. Exceptions are generally granted for students who live within a 45-minute radius of campus or who are living in Ellensburg with immediate family.
Residence Hall Application Important Dates
The housing application for the 2023-2024 academic year is available and can be accessed through the MyHousing page via the MyCWU portal. All students who apply to live on campus will be able to sign up for their room, select a meal plan, and pay the $200 application fee ($100 non refundable and $100 as a pre-payment that will be assessed on your student account at move-in). Sign up before June 1 for the ability to select your room. Please be aware, the completion of this application legally binds you to the Room and Board Contract for the entire school year. Read the terms and conditions of the application and contract carefully before submission.
- January 4 - January 20: Returning Student Priority Selection for coming Fall Quarter
- January 4 - January 20: Anderson, Student Village, and Wahle same room selection
- January 30: Apartment application and Anderson, Student Village, and Wahle open for eligible students
- January 30: Residence Hall Application opens for all students for Fall Quarter Housing selection
- Mid June: Residence Hall room self-selection ends

Priority Application for current students living in the residence halls opened for the 2023-2024 school year on January 4, 2023. Returning students can still apply and fill out their Housing Application.
