You're at a crossroads in your career. You're interested in teaching history or in related professions, or perhaps you're already teaching history and you're hoping for promotion. Or maybe you're hoping to pursue a doctorate and teach at a university. Maybe you're just yearning to learn more about history.

CONSIDER CWU'S M.A. PROGRAM IN HISTORY

We're a small program, which gives us an advantage. We make sure every graduate student receives personal attention from day one until graduation. Our program emphasizes close contact with an advisor and mentor, whether through regular coursework, independent studies, or preparation for an examination or a thesis.

CWU's M.A. program in history offers:

  • small class sizes
  • regular contact with a mentor
  • examination or thesis options
  • a wide variety of geographic and thematic fields
  • faculty who value both teaching and scholarship
  • an excellent placement rate into doctoral programs or secondary teaching jobs
  • funded teaching assistant positions

Student Testimonials:

"The professors' personal attention to the progress of my academic career has been of immense importance, and their involvement in facilitating my future professional career has been extremely beneficial as well. My experience in this department has been both challenging and encouraging." Rebecca Hastings, M.A. Class of 2013 (now studying for a Ph.D. at University of Oregon)

"I really appreciated the opportunities for mentorship and camaraderie in this program. Because the department is relatively small, I was able to work one-on-one with faculty members to improve my scholarly work. The small department size also allowed me to develop friendships with my classmates, who provided advice and support throughout the program." Talea Anderson, M.A. Class of 2013 (now a tenure-track Librarian at Washington State University)
