Regional Health Workforce Needs

Health workforce needs in the Tri-Counties region (Kittitas, Yakima, and Klickitat counties) of central Washington are generally similar to other predominantly rural areas in the country. Ellensburg has a small hospital, and Yakima has several hospitals and specialty care centers. Much of the remaining Tri-Counties region includes widely dispersed populations served through clinics and private practices.

Specific health workforce needs for rural areas are not being met, so it may be much easier to find some types of health career employment in rural communities than in large metropolitan centers.

  • In this region, the demand for home health aides and dental technicians is expected to grow 3% by 2012, while the need for massage therapists, anesthesiologists, and physical therapists is expected to grow by 2.1%. What are the fastest growing occupations in the Tri-Counties Region?
