Prerequisite Courses

The following courses are required by MOST ALL physical therapy schools as prerequisites. Students should always check their prerequisite classes against their top choices of schools, as schools do vary in their requirements.

  • CHEM 181, 182, 183 (General Chemistry with labs)
  • PHYS 111, 112, 113 or PHYS 121, 122, 123 or PHYS 181, 182, 183 (Physics with labs)
  • BIOL 305 & 306 or BIOL 355 & 356 (Human Anatomy and Physiology)
  • MATH 311 or BIO 213 or PSY 362 (Statistics)
  • PSY 101 (General Psychology)
  • One additional upper division Psychology course (e.g. PSY 313, PSY 449)

The following courses are required by SOME physical therapy schools as prerequisites.  Students should always check their prerequisite classes against their top choices of schools, as schools do vary in their requirements.

·       General Biology (BIOL 181, 182)

·       Additional Upper Division Physiology (e.g. BIOL 455, EXSC 450, BIOL 457)

·       Additional Upper Division Biology (e.g. BIOL 322, 323, 353, 354, 430, 454)

·       Biomechanics, Kinesiology, or Movement Studies (e.g. EXSC 370, 371, 470)

·       Additional coursework in Social Science (e.g. SOC 107, ANTH 110)

·       Most courses require prerequisites; check the catalog!

·       Course substitutions are sometimes possible but must be approved by the professional program(s) of interest.

·       Your goal should be A’s and B’s, no D’s.
