Geography Hires New Faculty Member

In September 2016, there will be a new faculty member in the department. In December, the university formally offered a tenure-track assistant professor position to Sterling Quinn, who is finishing his Ph.D. in Geography at Pennsylvania State University (PSU). Sterling grew up in the Yakima area and then went on to Brigham Young University where he earned a degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). After eight years with Esri Inc., the largest GIS software company in the world, Sterling then embarked on doctoral studies at PSU, focusing his research on open source mapping. You can learn more about Sterling’s background and interests here: When he arrives in the Fall, Sterling will be teaching cartography and GIS courses. We look forward to welcoming him back to our area!
