Students ate in the cafeterias with college students and got to experience a little bit about campus life while "rubbing elbows" with college goers. Kehm Works With Seniors

Cathy Kehm, testing consultant for GEAR UP schools, came to Brewster on September 21st to speak to the seniors about writing personal statements and on October 15 to speak about testing. On September 21st she showed them examples of personal statements and explained that they need to focus on how an event effected their lives and to not just write about an event by itself. On October 5th she spoke to them about preparing for the SAT test and how studying in advance is highly  recommended and will improve their scores, helping them get into the college of their choice. She also recommended that the students consider taking the ACT test as well as the SAT, especially if they are strong in science.

After School Open Library

The GEAR  UP after school open library program kicked off on September 13th. The library is open from 2:50-4:00 and a late bus takes students home at 4:10. Students must participate in the library program in order to ride the bus home. Bus tickets are given out at the 4:00 to students who have attended that day. Brewster's school districts then staffs the library until 7 pm for students wanting to study late or who can't make it to the earlier session due to sports participation. Students attending the sessions seem to be focused and working hard.
