DONOR HIGHTLIGHT Russell and Svanhild Castner

Dr. Russell and Svanhild Castner have committed $250,000 to create scholarship opportunities for Central Washington University students in memory of their daughter, Amy Castner, through the Amy Marie Castner Scholars Program. The scholars program will offer opportunities for individuals to pursue a university education in high-demand fields related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health care, the forensics and science of criminal investigation, and law inforcement.

The Castner’s donation is matched by WSOS, the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship. The WSOS fuels Washington’s innovation economy by providing scholarships and support services to low- and middle-income students pursuing high-demand science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and health care degrees in Washington state.

Amy Castner was pursuing a degree in law and justice from CWU and was also interested in the medical field, volunteering at several places including American Medical Response and Northwest Hospital Emergency Room, educating herself as a Certified First Responder and Registered Nursing Assistant.

"Amy had such a passion for giving back and we want that passion to live on in her name,” Russell and Svanhild Castner said. “We think Amy would have loved having a scholarship in her name, and nothing makes us happier than that.”
