To be considered for State Aid, or Federal Aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The priority deadline for completing the 2017-18 FAFSA is February 1, 2017. Once you have submitted the FAFSA the information is processed by the United States Department of Education and sent to the individual schools of your choice.

First Time Filers
It is important to file your FAFSA before the priority deadline. In doing so you will have more options for aid. The 2017-18 FAFSA will be available on October 1 and only needs to be completed once a year.
The award year begins in fall and ends at the close of summer term. If applying for summer aid, complete the current year FAFSA.
You and one of your parents (if you are a dependent student) are required to sign your application electronically. If you have not already done so, each of you will need to apply for a FSA ID.
It is important to submit accurate information as the information that you supply can be verified by your school, your state, or by Federal Student Aid. If you get Federal student aid based on incorrect information, you will have to pay it back; you may also have to pay fines and fees. If you purposely give false or misleading information on your application, you may be accused of fraud and fined $20,000, sent to prison, or both.
Renewing Your Application
If you filed your FAFSA the previous school year, you will have the option to use that biographical information automatically on your new FAFSA to save you time.
Carefully review each answer, update any information that has changed, and answer all other questions. This is very important. The FAFSA typically changes annually. Review every question.
We continue to accept and process applications after the priority deadlines.
All Institutionally funded grants (i.e. CWU Tuition Waiver) and loans (Perkins Loan) have funding limits, and are awarded on a first come, first serve basis to qualified applicants. The best way to be considered for these limited funds is to meet the priority deadlines.
If you apply with estimated figures it is more likely that you will be asked to complete verification.
