Strategic Enrollment Management

Strategic Enrollment Planning

Strategic enrollment planning is an on-going and data-informed process undertaken by universities committed to strategic enrollment management. While every major division group at CWU creates a plan with specific goals and objectives, the SE Plan is the common thread running through them all.

Read the SE Plan and provide your comments. You will need a CWU login to access.

A strategic enrollment plan identifies mission-critical goals for enrollment, and outlines strategies to achieve them. At the direction of the president, a team of faculty, staff, and administrators from all university divisions created the SE Plan development under the leadership of the vice president for enrollment management.

The initial plan addresses only undergraduate enrollment; yearly plan updates will add goals for graduate and international enrollment.

  • Increase total undergraduate enrollment of 14,205
  • Increase the number and percentage of traditionally racially and ethnically under-represented students
  • Improve student success as indicated by these key performance indicators:
    • New freshman retention: 71.4 to 78%
    • New transfer student continuation: 81% to 85%
    • Shorten time to degree for freshmen from 17.6 to 16.0 terms
    • Shorten time to degree for transfer students from 10.0 to 8.7 terms

Following adoption of the SE Plan, the VP SEM will oversee the creation of an implementation and assessment plan, which will include the comprehensive list of prioritized tactics. Some tactics are already underway, in the planning stages, or new.  New initiatives will require a thoughtful consideration of allocation of new or reallocation of existing financial resources.
