Army/ROTC conducts fall 2022 contract hike
On Friday, Oct. 14, CWU’s Army/ROTC completed their fall contracting hike at Manastash Ridge, eight miles southwest of the Ellensburg campus. The contracting hike is a semi-annual event that recognizes newly contracted cadets in the program and helps build trust and cohesion within the Wildcat Battalion.
Each cadet hiked up the ridge along with a member of the senior class whom they consider a mentor. Once they reached the top of the ridge, the mentors spoke about their cadet mentees, the latter’s impact on the program and their future in the army. Seven distinguished Military Science graduates were also recognized: Brandon Randall, Cecil Sampson, Joshua Beddall, Tom Sturgeon, Mackenzie Singleton, Matthew Evans and Gunnar Moore.
To conclude the event, Army/ROTC’s department chair, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Paollili, spoke to the cadets about the importance of their future service and the impact they will have on the program as well as their friends, family and communities as a whole.
Named after CWU's mascot, the Wildcat Battalion has been nationally ranked and recognized several times since its inception in 1981.
