Student Spotlight


May, 2019

Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Spencer Boldt has been amazing both in the classroom and on the rugby pitch. She is currently working towards obtaining her Economics major with a minor in both Women, Sexualities Studies. She will also be graduating as an Arts and Humanities Scholar after successful completion of the DHC Upper Division. Spencer is currently a captain for Central's Women Rugby, where they will be competing in the 7s USA National Championships in Tucson Arizona. She has received recognition as both an athlete and student, which include being named Student Athlete of the Year for Central Athletics, two time recipient of the GNAC F.A.R. Scholar-Athlete Award, and has been on the Dean's List every quarter during her time at Central.

February, 2019

Tristan is an Interdisciplinary Social Science major because he enjoys the freedom it gives him to take a variety of classes. He is also minoring in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Museum Studies. Tristan performs in local theater productions and enjoys being the RA for the Music LLC in Alfred Montgomery Hall. Working alongside Katya Volchek, a DHC student, he recently helped create the The Classroom: Learning by Doing exhibit in CWU's Museum of Culture and Environment.

September, 2018

Alex is a senior majoring in Biology with a specialization in Biomedicine. Alex is an office assistant and lead student ambassador for the DHC! He is currently Pre-Medicine/Pre-Nursing and is hoping to start the BSN program at WSU next year. Alex is hoping to go on and get his Doctor of Nursing Practice. When Alex isn’t in class he spends most of his time outdoors either hiking, fishing, or snowboarding!

Aletha is a junior majoring in actuarial science, with minors in computer science, finance, and economics as well as taking the upper division honors. Aletha loves to read when she isn’t busy studying, likes to practice yoga, and tend to her many plants. While not totally sure what her future career will be, Aletha is certain of other things her future will involve: a large garden, and a lot of animals who need a home. Her advice: everyday is a new day, so live in the present!

Aubrey is playing the role of Elle Woods in Central Theatre Ensemble’s production of “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”

Aubrey's advice to other students:
"Focus on being the best version of YOU that you can be. No one can beat you at your own game, so embrace all that you are and make your dreams happen!"


April, 2018

Kenya is part of this year's SOBRE Mexico cohort. This is a program funded by the National Science Foundation to do research this upcoming summer at the Unam Estación de Biologia Chamela in Jalisco, Mexico. Kenya will be studying Golden-Cheeked Woodpeckers for her research project.

Kenya's advice to other students:
"If you ever get an opportunity to do research or study abroad do it. It is a great learning experience and you make great relationships and connection. Plus it is a ton of fun!"

Lexi is the Editor-in-Chief of PULSE Magazine (Central's student-run lifestyle magazine) since June 2017 and is also a DHC Peer Mentor.

Lexi's advice to other students:
"Hard work is the key to success, but you must also be sure to take care of yourself. Ensuring your own well-being is just as important as putting in the work."
