The Elementary Education major and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) minor leads to a Bachelor of Arts in Education with certification in Elementary Education (k-8) and English Language Learners (ELL p-12). Candidates proficient in a non-English language may also add the Bilingual Education Endorsement.

This program, which has served the teacher preparation needs of the Puget Sound area for over 20 years, is widely respected by school districts in King and Pierce County.

A cohort model allows students to work cooperatively and collegially as part of a professional learning community.  Candidates in this program gain valuable expertise, through deep and extended field work, preparing them to teach in classrooms where second language students are enrolled.

Cohorts are admitted each January. Students will need to plan for a total of seven quarters to complete the program, including two full-time summer quarters. Classes are held Monday- Thursday during the day (typically a 10am start).

The program is also open to already certificated teachers wishing to add the Elementary, ELL, or Bilingual endorsements.
