GREENSBORO, N.C. – Central Washington University’s men’s rugby team placed fourth during the weekend’s USA Rugby College 7s National Championship. Men’s rugby, a sport club at CWU, was up against the nation’s elite 7s programs, from 24 colleges and universities nationwide.
In pool play on Saturday, the Wildcats, the Pacific Northwest Conference Champions, lost to Davenport but shutout both San Jose State and Auburn, to win their way into the quarterfinals. With a 22-17 win over Life College, CWU advanced to the semifinal round but lost to St. Mary’s 34-12.
In the bronze match, CWU was defeated 15-12 by Dartmouth in a hard-fought contest, as the Wildcats battled back from a 5-nothing deficit.
CWU men’s rugby team will now turn its attention to the 15-a-side Varsity Cup competition, which begins in March.
