Course Proposals
Continuing Education coursework must be educational in nature and have direct linkage to the University’s mission and an academic unit within CWU. To ensure quality programming, all CE courses are throroughly vetted. CE also requires course evaluation forms from each participant at the conclusion of class.
The four types of programming CE offers are:
- Non-Credit Personal Enrichment
- Clock Hours
- Continuing Education Units
- 500 Level Professional Development Credit
Non-Credit Personal Enrichment Courses
Personal enrichment classes are designed for anyone in the community. They are non-credit and broad in offerings from creative courses to technology and recreation.

Clock Hours
Clock hours are designed for teachers to use for certification renewal and/or salary advancement. Subject matter for these courses are focused on academic content or pedagogy.

500 Level Professional Development Credits (PDCs)
500 Level University Credit provides transcriptable university credit for workshops, conferences, seminars, etc.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Continuing education units, or CEUs, are used primarily by professional organizations and societies in conjunction with conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. Common uses of CEUs are to record refresher, transitional, or knowledge improvement accomplishments.
