Withdrawing from a Course

It is the student's and the high school's responsibility to communicate with CWU CiHS when a student withdraws. When a student no longer in a CWU course in the high school, written notification must be sent to the College in the High School office, before the deadline (listed below).

An email from the student, teacher, counselor, or business manager of the school, sent to the CiHS Program Coordinator for your school, is appropriate. Please include the following details:

  • The student's full name as it appears on the registration form
  • The CWU course name and section (e.g. Math 153 Precalculus)
  • The teacher's name
  • The date the student last attended as a CWU enrollee
  • Type of withdrawal (see below)

A withdrawal does not affect a student's CWU grade point average.

Be aware, withdrawing does not dismiss any class fees associated with the course. The charges will remain and the student or school will continue to receive invoices until the balance is paid.

Uncontested withdrawal:

The student took a portion of the class. They will receive a +W on their transcript.

Complete Withdrawal:

Students will be withdrawn from all classes at CWU for reasons of illness or extenuating circumstances at any time, prior to finals week. The student will receive a W on their transcript for each class.

Hardship Withdrawal Petition:

Students may request to be withdrawn from one course, late in the term, if they have experienced extenuating circumstances that present a hardship and affect their ability to finish the course. If approved, the student will receive a HW on their CWU transcript for the class.

Deadlines for withdrawal

The time frames for withdrawing vary depending on whether the high school is on a Semester, Trimester, or Quarter term system.
