Following a Sexual Misconduct Report
When Civil Rights Compliance (CRC) receives a report of sexual misconduct, the Title IX Coordinator will review the report as well as (1) provide outreach to the Reporting Party/Complainant, (2) offer supportive measures, and (3) discuss the formal complaint process, investigative options, and resolution options, if appropriate.
- Responding to the Title IX Coordinator is optional for the Reporting Party/Complainant. If you are unsure about contacting the Title IX Coordinator or initiating an investigative and/or resolution process, consider confidential reporting options.
Complainant Outreach
The Title IX Coordinator will contact and potentially meet with the Reporting Party/Complainant to:
- Confirm that a sexual misconduct report involving the Reporting Party/Complainant was received
- Discuss the Reporting Party/Complainant's rights, options, and resources
- Offer supportive measures to the Reporting Party/Complainant
Supportive Measures
The Title IX Coordinator will discuss supportive measures with the Reporting Party/Complainant, noting that:
- Supportive measures are individualized for each reported incident and are based on the needs of the involved parties
- A Reporting Party/Complainant can receive supportive measures without a formal complaint or next steps
Initiate Potential Next Steps
After consulting with the Reporting Party/Complainant, the Title IX Coordinator will initiate any potential next steps, including:
- Documenting the reported incident
- Receiving a formal complaint from the Reporting Party/Complainant, if needed
- Initiating an informal or formal resolution process

CWU Response to Sexual Misconduct: Know Your Rights & Options (PDF)Supportive Measures
CWU is committed to providing a learning, working, and living environment where every community member is comfortable reporting incidents of sexual misconduct.
Supportive measures restore or preserve access to CWU educational and employment programs, without unreasonably burdening the involved parties.
- What are Supportive Meaures?
Supportive measures:
- Restore or preserve access to CWU educational and employment programs and activities, without unreasonably burdening the other involved party.
- Are individualized to each reported incident and the involved parties.
- Are determined through an interactive process with the Title IX Coordinator.
- Can be arranged or implemented by the Title IX Coordinator whether a formal complaint has been made, as well as whether the report is resolved informally or formally.
- Who Can Request Supportive Measures?
Reporting Party/Complainant
- Once an incident has been reported, the Title IX Coordinator will arrange for supportive measures for the Reporting Party/Complainant, as needed.
- If notice of an investigation and/or resolution process is provided to both the Reporting Party/Complainant and Respondent, all involved parties may request and receive supportive measures, both during and after an investigative process or determination of responsibility.
- CWU community members can request and receive supportive measures even if the other involved party is not a current member of the CWU community.
Respondent
- If notice of an investigation and/or resolution process is provided to both the Reporting Party/Complainant and Respondent, all involved parties may request and receive supportive measures, both during and after an investigative process or determination of responsibility.
- CWU community members can request and receive supportive measures even if the other involved party is not a current member of the CWU community.
Title IX Coordinator
- Supportive measures may be implemented by the Title IX Coordinator or appropriate office to protect the safety of all CWU community members, as well as to prevent retaliation and sexual misconduct from reoccurring.
- What Are Examples of Supportive Measures?
From modifications to academic and/or work schedules, to referrals to resources on and off-campus, the Title IX Coordinator can assist community members by providing various supportive measures.
If reasonably available, supportive measures include, but are not limited to:
- Access to counseling services, medical assistance, or victim advocacy services
- Modifications to work or class schedules
- Modifications to on-campus living arrangements
- Transportation accommodations or assistance
- Campus escorts
- University no-contact orders
- University trespass from campus, as well as specific areas or buildings
Initiating Investigation and Resolution Processes
When a report is made, the Title IX Coordinator will reach out to the Reporting Party/Complainant to discuss options, including but not limited to investigation and resolution processes.
If a Reporting Party/Complainant requests that the University not proceed with an investigation and resolution process, the Title IX Coordinator will determine whether the university can honor the request and at the same time maintain a safe and non-discriminatory environment for all members of the university community.

Reporting sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator is always sufficient to put the University on notice.
