CWU's Business & Industry Route CTE Program Information


Endorsement Areas

These are the specialty areas in which a person can seek Business & Industry Route CTE certification in the state of Washington. The area(s) in which a person qualifies will depend on their occupational experience. 6000 hours of occupational experience is required in addition to the Business & Industry Route CTE coursework to become certified in any particular specialty area.

CTE Candidates must have 6000 hours of paid occupational experience in the area for which certification is sought. Documentation of this experience will be evaluated by OSPI.


Program Offerings

To obtain certification, career and industry professionals must complete both the CTE 310 and CTE 311 course series. Current teachers typically require completion of the CTE 311 series and Occupational Analysis/Safety course. However, required courses will be determined upon transcript evaluation.

Academic Year Session
Summer Intensive Session**
CTE 310 and CTE 311
  • One Saturday per month of instruction
  • Several delivery sites throughout WA         
CTE 311 plus Occupational Analysis/Safety 
  • One week in-person, four weeks online instruction
  • Additional supervised teaching experience required

**CTE Candidates must complete 310 block (or equivalent courses) before enrolling in 311

Requirements for Admission to CTE B&I Route Program:

  • Complete CTE program application (CWU admissions application not required)
  • Background check and fingerprints on file with OSPI (or current WA state teaching certificate) 
  • Evidence of basic skills (WEST B, SAT, or ACT)
  • Official transcript showing degree in education and all teaching-related courses (if applicable) 



Accepted applicants will be contacted regarding registration after May 1 for the summer session and August 1 for the academic year.


Payment Information

Cost of enrollment is $215 per credit, plus up to $100 in fees. Tuition is due within 60 days of enrollment. Fees are due one week prior to the first day of class. If a school district is paying tuition and fees on your behalf, you must contact Guaranteed Sources in Student Accounts at within 30 days or enrolling to make payment arrangements. 


Cancellation Policy

Students may withdraw before class session 2 for a full refund, and before class session 3 for a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after class session 3. Withdrawal requests must be made in writing and sent to via email. All courses must meet minimum enrollment to run. Students will be notified via email if they have enrolled in a course that did not meet the minimum enrollment requirement.
