Point of View Series | Hidden Colors and Rules of Racism

The Law and Justice Department and the Westside/Online Law and Justice Club members would like to invite you to join us during the summer Point of View Series | Hidden Colors and Rules of Racism.

The goal is to study, learn, collaborate, and develop strategies for change for presentation at two community awareness events in October and November. The events will showcase the group’s study of Hidden Colors and Rules of Racism and propose strategies for change within the law and justice systems.

We very much look forward to seeing you in this timely and vital Point of View Summer Series.

Open to all students, majors, and minors. See you soon!

Schedule of Activities

June 18th - begin a short read, Phillip Hoose, Claudette Colvin Twice Toward Justice, and watch a documentary Hidden Colors and Rules of Racism. Discuss Hoose (2009) and Hidden Colors at July's meeting, begin reading a new book for discussion at the August meeting. For those who need, there are 15 free copies of Claudette Colvin Twice Toward Justice. Please email Christine.Henderson@cwu.edu for your copy. Christine will mail the book to you.

July 16th – Join and interact with a panel of three experts. The topic is the Hidden Colors and Rules of Racism in the law and justice systems.

August 13th – Watch the movie Mercy and begin reading Jardina Ashley, White Identity Politics (2019), Cambridge University Press. We will also discuss what we have learned thus far and start creating strategies for change community awareness campaigns in October and November. For those who need, there will be 15 free copies of the White Identity Politics. Please email Christine.Henderson@cwu.edu to receive your copy in the mail.

September 17th - Work on the community awareness campaign, schedule the dates for the community awareness events in October and November. And interact with another panel of three experts. Lastly, begin reading Suspect Citizens: What 20 Million Traffic Stops Tell Us About Policing and Race Baumgartner, Epp & Shoub (2018).
