Natural Science Seminar - Dr. Jessica Mayhew presents "The Significance of Social Play in Primates"

Jessica is a native New Englander, but joined the Ellensburg and CWU community in 2014 as a lecturer in the Department of Anthropology and Museum Studies. She was hired as an Assistant Professor in 2016, and is the current director of the Primate Behavior and Ecology program, which is the only bachelor’s degree in primatology in the United States.

Jessica earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Chicago. She went on to complete her PhD in Evolutionary Psychology at the University of St Andrews in Scotland where her dissertation focused on socio-cognition and social play in gorillas. Her expertise is in ape behavior, social cognition, and juvenile play, and she spends her days trying to peek inside the minds of other primates to see the world through their lens.
