The chemistry department recently learned that Dr. L. Clint Duncan passed away on June 9, 2020.

Clint was born in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1936.  He was married to his lovely wife Sara and they had two children.  He earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Washington and held a position as a post-doctoral assistant at Purdue University before coming to CWU in 1965.

Dr. Duncan was a member of the CWU Chemistry Department from 1965-1999 and was awarded emeritus faculty status upon his retirement. He served as department chair for 16 of his 34 years on campus. At CWU he transitioned from a fluorine/inorganic chemist to an analytical and environmental chemist, and was instrumental in planning the current Science Building.  After he retired he moved around a bit…he lived in Lummi Bay, Washington for a few years, moved to California for a while before settling in Florence, Arizona where he was residing with wife Sara when he passed.  The family chose not to have services for him.

He stayed in close contact with the department after he retired and was always curious and excited to hear all of the CWU news. He is shown here doing what he loved - teaching students in a chemistry lab in Dean Hall. He will be sorely missed.
