There are resources to help. The Cybercrime Support Network has launched a series of resources to support, recover, and protect yourself from cybercrime and online fraud. University staff and students may be more susceptible to education and scholarship fraud.
Therefore, if you suspect that you may be a victim of cybercrime, follow these steps:

  • Report the incident at FTC Complaint Assistant
  • Reinforce your security by understanding the various types of education scams:
    • College Degree Scams
    • High School Diploma Scams
    • Scholarship and Financial Aid Scams
    • Avoiding Loan Scams
    • College students and ID Theft
  • Recover by contacting your financial institution as well as the following:
    • Federal Student Aid, Office of U.S. Department of Education
    • Fraudsupport.org

“Avoid scams while searching for scholarships, filling out the FAFSA® form, repaying your student loans, or giving personal information to schools and lenders. Learn how at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/
