Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) Overview

The Master of Professional Accountancy is composed of an accounting core, applied courses, and elective courses. Accounting core courses will deliver the body of knowledge necessary to understand today's complex accounting industry. The applied courses will employ skills and theories from core courses to real-life scenarios aimed at preparing the student to enter the profession with competence. Elective courses will round the educational experience, rendering it more tailored to the student's individual interests and needs.

MPA Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution by the time of matriculation or enrollment with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all coursework attempted in at least the last 90 quarter (60 semester) hours of recognized academic work.  
  • Completion of Intermediate Accounting Series, the content of which is similar to ACCT 350, 351 and 352, with a C or higher.
  • Completion of one foundation tax course, the content of which is similar to ACCT 303 or 340, with a C or higher.
  • International students must meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement of CWU School of Graduate Studies & Research.

  • Classes meet once a week 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
  • 45 quarter credits
  • Program can be completed in 12 months (4 quarters)

  • Assess accounting problems related to financial, managerial, taxation, auditing and data analysis.
  • Compose and prepare reports in conformance with professional standards.
  • Formulate recommendations on how to properly comply with tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare clients on matters pertaining to compliance with tax and accounting standards.
  • Evaluate and judge common ethical dilemmas in accounting.
  • Evaluate findings and conclusions effectively orally and in writing.
