Tim graduated from Central Washington University in 1971 (when it was known as Central Washington State College) with a Bachelor's degree in business administrator with a specialty in accounting.  He earned his Master of Science degree in Federal taxation from Golden Gate University in 1984.

Upon graduating from Central, Tim took a position with a small accounting firm in his hometown of Longview, WA, and enjoyed performing financial and operational audits all over the world. In 1978, he purchased his own accounting firm in Renton and operated Searing, Gitelson, Keeslar for 14 years, ultimately merging into a large regional firm which was then absorbed into McGladrey LLP, currently the 5th largest CPA firm in the country. Tim retired as a partner from McGladrey on April 30, 2014, after over 43 years in public accounting.

In his recent capacity with McGladrey, Tim was one of two partners heading up the Family Wealth Services group for the Northwest offices and was a primary driving force in setting up this practice.  Family Wealth Services serves high net worth individuals with estate, gift and income tax planning and compliance.  Tim advised clients in the transfer of wealth from one generation to the next or in some cases down several generations which has saved families large amounts of estate tax.  Tim’s background is not exclusively in serving high net worth clients but also with smaller owner-managed companies in the retail, manufacturing and commercial real estate businesses.  In many cases, these smaller businesses grew to the point that they ultimately required more sophisticated planning.  Tim also assisted these clients with the successful sales of their business to larger enterprises.

As a leader of his CPA practice, Tim recognizes the value of sharing knowledge and growing the careers of younger accountants.  He believes and practices mentoring and has been a strong support to those wishing to advance their careers.

Tim is a CPA and a registered investment advisor.  His wife Kimberly is also a CPA and they enjoy their three grown children (none are CPAs) and four grandchildren (there is still hope). Retirement has meant more time for his passions of fly fishing, golf and enjoying his Cle Elum cabin.  He is also involved with community and organizations that provide necessary services to for the greater good.  He is a member of the CWU College of Business Advisory Board, incoming Chair of the Salvation Army King County Advisory Board, past Chair (and current member) of the Park Commissioners for the City of Renton and is a member of the Athletic Committee of the Washington Athletic Club.
Tim has seen the accounting profession change vastly in the last half century including the transformation from green ledger workpapers to the numerous electronic formats and has remained proud of his accounting profession.
