In his fifth year with the athletic department at Central Washington University as the associate athletic director for compliance and academics is Gary Hyatt.
Hyatt is responsible for internal matters, concerning specifically the rules and guidelines of the NCAA, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and CWU. He works with student-athletes and parents to ensure the best possible experience at CWU.
Prior to coming to CWU, Hyatt served as the director for football operations at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, from 2000-2007. He coached the defensive line for the Mustangs in 1999, and also served as the football team's defensive graduate assistant at SMU in 1998.
Hyatt also taught at Highland Park High School in Dallas in 1997-98, and was both a teacher and coach at Flowing Well High School in Tucson, Ariz., from 1994-97. He began his coaching career in 1993 at his alma mater, Selah High School.
Hyatt graduated from Central Washington University in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in science. He later added his Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) from SMU in 2000. Hyatt, whose hometown is Selah, Wash., is married to Jenna, who is Director of Residence Life and New Student Programs at CWU. They have three sons Tommy, Henry, and William.
