CWU Art Students, Faculty Featured at Gallery One First Friday Artwalk

Solo and group shows and a juried exhibition showcase Central Washington University's Art Department talent at Gallery One. There will be an opening reception from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on March 2.

Senior Austin Harris, who received the Gallery One Exhibition Award from Executive Director Monica Miller, will present his solo exhibition, Do These Shoes Look Okay? Harris is a senior pursuing his BFA, with a focus in painting. Do These Shoes Look Okay? will be shown in the Eveleth Green Gallery.

"I am exploring the males' false sense of identity and insecurities that arise from both, our upbringing and surrounding members of society," Harris related. "Often times, the male is viewed and thought to feel both powerful and invulnerable, while in reality our own sense of falsehood and molded identity masks our insecurities."

The Hallway Gallery will feature the CWU Student Art Club Exhibition, with works in a variety of mediums by members of the university art club. Students showing their works are: Max Volkman, Alyssa Davis, Isabelle Berry, Jim Neely, Ben Moser, Makayla Miracle, Adrian Lee, Trinidad Oribio, Trisha Hall, Christian McGirk, and Lee Sullivan.

In the Main Gallery, in celebration of Gallery One's 50th anniversary, All That Glitters features 33 works by 29 artists. The gallery put out a national call for art made of or about gold, and entries of work in any medium that exemplifies the idea of gold were accepted. CWU Art Professor Keith Lewis and Artist Tariqa Waters juried the unique selection of works.

The exhibits will run through March 31.

Gallery One, located at 408 N. Pearl Street in Ellensburg, is Central Washington's premiere art gallery.
