Residency Reflections Ceramics Exhibition Opens February 14

The CWU Sarah Spurgeon Gallery will host Residency Reflections a ceramics invitational exhibition curated by Stephen Robison, Associate Professor of Ceramics. The exhibit features work by an international group of twelve ceramic artists: Amanda Barr, Amanda Bury, Ben Carter, Seth Charles, Iva Haas, Rain Harris, Yoonjee Kwak, Stephanie Lanter, Soe Yu Nwe, Amanda Salov, Jamie Bates Slone, and Tzyy Yi Young.

The opening events will take place on Thursday, February 14, beginning with a panel discussion at 4:00 p.m. in Randall Hall, room 117. The talk will be immediately followed by a reception in the gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

During the panel discussion four of the artists, Amanda Bury, Seth Charles, Iva Haas, and Amanda Salov, will share their personal experiences with artist residencies. A residency is an opportunity, sponsored by a host organization, for artists to work in a different environment where they are free to explore new ideas and focus on developing their work. The panel will be moderated by Ben Carter who, in addition to his studio work, is the creator and host of Tales of a Red Clay Rambler podcast, where he interviews artists about their craft, creativity, and lifestyle.

CWU Ceramics Invitational Exhibition: Residency Reflections will remain on display through March 10. Sarah Spurgeon Gallery is located in Randall Hall on Dean Nicholson Boulevard and is open weekdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on weekends, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The gallery will be closed February 18 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Admission is free. Please visit our website at:
