Professor Glen L. Bach's career has spanned the past 39 years at Central Washington University. Bach was originally hired as a graphic designer and illustrator before being recruited to Central’s Department of Art + Design, where he has been professor and director of the graphic design program for the past twenty two years. He received a B.F.A. in graphic design from the University of Idaho, continued his studies at Art Center College of Design, and completed an M.F.A. at Vermont College of Norwich University with an emphasis in digital art and visual culture. He has designed for a wide variety of corporate clients, such as Seattle’s Best Coffee. As a fine artist, Bach works with an array of media, including digital imagery, photography, paint and mixed media. His work is shown in peer-reviewed venues, both nationally and internationally.
As a professor, Bach taught that graphic designers must contribute to the visual culture of society by placing concepts and communication of information above mere visual cosmetics. He emphasized critical thinking and encouraged open inquiry and the clear communication of ideas. His students won many design and advertising awards and continue their professional lives as conscientious citizens and designers. He believes
that design education doesn't end in the classroom, but is a lifetime activity.
Professor Bach retired from the Art Department at CWU in 2017 after 39 years of distinguished service to the University.
