The CWU Sarah Spurgeon Gallery will host The Poster Show, an invitational exhibition curated by David Bieloh, Associate Professor of Graphic Design. The exhibit features posters created by fifteen innovative commercial graphic designers and design educators, whose work is nationally and internationally-known. Their various styles provide a broad overview of graphic design as applied to poster art.
The list of participating designers includes: Jessi Arrington, Ben Dolezal, Fred Drennan, Robert Grame, Rick Griffith, Irwan Harnoko, Daniel Jasper, Shane Kendrick, Dick Mitchell, Fred Murrell, Kim Neiman, Rex Peteet, Virgil Scott, Ad Vogele, and Agnieszka Ziemiszewska.
Gallery visitors can expect to see posters that are commercial, experimental, and political, and that range from subtle and subdued to bright and bold. More traditional letterpress and hand-printed silk screen posters will be displayed alongside digital poster designs.
The opening events will take place on Thursday, October 3, beginning with a designer’s talk by Rex Peteet at 4:00 p.m. in Randall Hall, room 117. Rex Peteet is Senior Vice President and Creative Director of Studio | Peteet Design, a design consultancy in Austin, Texas, with expertise in brand strategy and identity development. His talk will be immediately followed by a reception in the gallery from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The Poster Show will remain on display through October 27. Sarah Spurgeon Gallery is located in Randall Hall on Dean Nicholson Boulevard and is open weekdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on weekends, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free. Please visit our website at: www.cwu.edu/art
