Charles creates utilitarian ceramic work intended to become an intimate part of people's daily lives - pots to be held, eaten from, poured from, and sipped from. The exhibition's title From the Fire refers to an ancient technique of firing ceramics with wood as the fuel source. Charles says of his work: "The wood firing process produces surfaces that are rich with complexities and I hope the user finds them both intricate and compelling while remaining quiet and contemplative."
Seth Charles is a second year graduate student in CWU's Department of Art. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Charles is currently teaching at CWU and Gallery One Visual Arts Center in Ellensburg.
