INTERSTATE: Where I-90 meets I-82 Opens November 7

The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery will host INTERSTATE: Where I-90 meets I-82, a national juried exhibition organized by the CWU Department of Art+ Design. Proceeds earned from the artist’s entry fees are used to support undergraduate student scholarships.

The juror for the exhibit, who selected artwork by fifty-seven artists, is Grace Kook-Anderson. Kook-Anderson is the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum. The opening events will take place on Thursday, November 7, beginning with a lecture by Kook-Anderson at 4:00 p.m. in Randall Hall, room 117. Her lecture will be followed by a reception in the gallery from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The first-place award winner is Eric Zeigler for his large print of a drone composite image titled Cinder Hills, AZ, NASA Test Site.  Zeigler is an Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Art at the University of Toledo, Ohio. Susan Murrell, an Associate Professor of Art at Eastern Oregon University, La Grande, won second place for her mixed media watercolor painting Four Cracked Spheres. Dee Hood, a Professor Emerita living in Ruskin, Florida, received third place for her video piece Transient. Honorable mentions were given to Lindsay Garcia (Williamsburg, VA), Paho Mann (Dallas, TX), and Weiting Wei (Powell, OH).

The exhibition will remain on view through December 8 (the gallery will be closed November 11, and November 27 through December 1 for holidays). Sarah Spurgeon Gallery is located in Randall Hall on Dean Nicholson Boulevard and is open weekdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on weekends, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.
