Apparel, Textiles & Merchandising Minor

The minor in apparel, textiles and merchandising is designed for those students wanting some expertise in the apparel industry to strengthen their majors in business, marketing, communication, advertising, graphic design, theatre arts, event planning, accounting, retail management, etc. In just 21 credits students are exposed to various aspects of merchandising, trend analysis, textiles, buying, sustainability, and fashion event planning. Completing the minor will contribute to future career competitiveness and broaden opportunities.

Upon successful completion of this minor, students will be able to:

  • Roles and functions of various industry sectors
  • Needs and wants of consumers and how applied to product lines
  • Product quality, serviceability, and regulatory compliance standards
  • Use industry terminology appropriately
  • Understand and apply knowledge about the role of dress as it reflects and shapes intra- and inter-cultural interactions.
  • Evaluate issues of social responsibility, professional behavior, and ethics related to decision making
  • Evaluate issues of environmental sustainability and impact of industry
  • Demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills including diverse perspectives
