Scholarship Central: Thanks to Alumni Donors

Whether you’ve got a current or prospective CWU student in your family, or are interested in contributing to a scholarship fund, we want you to know about Scholarship Central. Scholarship Central is the new scholarship system at CWU to help manage applications, selection and awarding scholarships.

Scholarship applications are open now through February 1, 2018. The system can be accessed by visiting, and then clicking the Scholarship Central logo. Powered by, the new system replaces the former General Scholarship Application (GSA) and creates a place to learn about scholarships and donors. The profile and set up experience is much improved, improving the overall application experience. The system also allows for review and selection by the selection committees.

Once awards have been given, applicants are encouraged to be in touch with donors. The system has donor information, including names and profiles. One donor couple we’d like to highlight is Doug and Sharon Andrews. They inspire students, and we are proud to share their story.

Doug and Sharon are both CWU alumni, who enrolled at Central after getting their associate degrees from Highline JC/Community College. Doug transferred to the CWU Ellensburg campus in 1966 and graduated in 1968 with a BS in Business. Sharon attended one of the Westside CWU centers in 1988 and graduated in 1990 with a BS in Accounting. Doug experienced learning challenges, which could have reduced his odds of getting a college degree, but with the caring, helpful, and encouraging environment he found at Central, he was able to succeed. After graduation in 1968, Doug went to work in the family construction equipment sales and rental business in the Seattle area. In 2002, after a successful career, he sold the business and retired. In 1974, Doug was invited to join the CWU Alumni Association Board of Directors, where he proudly served through 2012. This time on the alumni board gave Doug the opportunity to watch and participate in the growth of CWSC/CWU through several university presidents, working closely with alumni staff and many dedicated CWU Alumni Association board members. What Central Washington University gave Sharon and Doug in education, friendships, and connection nurtured their heartfelt love for the university. It was with this in mind that they set up their endowed scholarship in 2016, with the aim to help other students gain access to the Central education experience.
