Staying Connected Remotely
As we start the month of May, we continue to search for new ways to support Wildcats during this difficult time.
The class of 2020 is on our minds and in our hearts as we know they are navigating through an unprecedented and emotional time. While the in-person commencement ceremony has been cancelled, we hope to honor this class through digital commencement and other ways.
We want to encourage each of you to write words of encouragement to this class on social media, using the tag #CWUWildcats2020 and tagging @CWUAlumni. If you know an upcoming graduate, you can give them the gift of an engraved brick that will be placed on the alumni walk in the Barge courtyard, which is made possible through our Brick-by-Brick Program. We are also offering annual CWU Alumni Association memberships to new graduates for only $25, which includes a license plate frame and an additional six months of membership for free. Lifetime memberships are half off and include your choice of a diploma frame or $50 Wildcat Shop gift card.
Wildcats have become #CWUTogether in the most creative, nimble, and inspiring ways, and many have been using that hashtag to display how. In order to support local businesses during this time, you can buy a t-shirt with $10 from each sale going directly to the business you are supporting, all while helping to keep a local print shop alive. CWU has a special shirt as part of this campaign, found here.
We also want to highlight alumni owned or operated businesses and help promote them to the Wildcat family. If you would like to be featured, please fill out our questionnaire. Thank you to those who have already submitted responses, and we look forward to hearing from more of you. For more Wildcat business resources, please visit cwu.edu/alumni/wildcat-business.
CWU Career Services presents the 2020 CWU Spring Virtual Career Fair coming next week, May 11-15. This is a virtual, zero-cost event for all participants. Even if you are not currently hiring, you may consider participating to network with CWU students and alumni and grow your potential talent pool. Visit the Wildcat Business web page to register.
If you have the skill and the passion and would like to make Central themed masks (think crimson and black), we would love your support in making and donating masks for our students this fall. Please contact the alumni office at 509-963-2160 to let us know if you can help us reach our goal of 10,000 masks to provide one for every student. If you don’t have the ability to sew your own masks, please visit cwu.edu/give and donate funds to help purchase masks today by including ‘PPE’ in your gift notes.
Don’t forget to tune in to our first CWU alumni webinar on May 13 which will discuss Managing your Personal Finances During COVID-19. The webinar will be led by Tim Studlack, vice president and skills development manager from 1st Security Bank. Visit the webinar event page for more information and to register today.
The Men and Women of the 50s, 60s, and 70s event that is normally held in June has been postponed until this fall. Because of the unknowns surrounding the current pandemic, a new date has not been confirmed. We will update 50s, 60, and 70s graduates with the new date via email, newsletters, and social media when we have it.
We hope you are all staying healthy and safe during this time, and we look forward to being able to see you all again. Go Cats!
