CWU Time Capsule not to be Seen Again for Decades

A new class of Wildcats is getting ready to graduate and start a new chapter in their lives. Not only will these students be taking on this new venture with a quality education, but also with cherished memories spanning over the course of their time at CWU. We want to celebrate past, present, and future students by helping commemorate those memories at Central with two time capsules.

Student Appreciation Day is coming up on May 24 where we will be burying two time capsules in the Barge Courtyard. One will be a 25-year capsule, to be unearthed at CWU’s 150th anniversary in 2042, and the other is a 50-year capsule, which will be unearthed at CWU’s 175th anniversary in 2067.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to help commemorate the many different memories of CWU students, both past and present," said Bob Ford, executive director of the alumni association at Central. “By participating in the time capsule program, you are not only memorializing your Central experiences, but also giving back to CWU.”

The cost to add your memories to one or both of the capsules is as follows:

  • $1: Sign the official time capsule guestbook
  • $5: Customize your own acid-free paper
  • $25: Fill an envelope

The proceeds from the Traveling Time Capsule will benefit student scholarships at CWU.

To see the time capsules and get your items included in them, you can visit us at multiple upcoming events in both Ellensburg and Seattle, including CWU Day with the Mariners on May 18. All materials that you wish to include in the time capsules must be turned in to the alumni office in Barge Hall, room 115, no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 21, to allow CWU archives time to properly curate each item.
