Welcome
The Wellness Center is a resource for students who want to enhance their general sense of well-being. Whether you are interested in how diet and
exercise can reduce stress, how to best talk to a friend who is struggling with some issues, or want to get involved in preventing violence, the
Wellness Center is the place for you.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
~World Health Organization, 1948
We also provide assistance to students who may face challenges such as alcohol and other drug concerns or sexual violence. All of these services are
provided in a confidential and supportive atmosphere. Unlike some substance abuse prevention programs that utilize fear-based approaches and promote
a “just say no” message, the Wellness Center takes a more positive approach and focuses on risk and harm reduction. We believe that college students
are adults who have the intellectual capacity to make responsible, informed decisions about their substance use. We see our role as providing students
with accurate information regarding substance use and the skills necessary to reduce or eliminate harm. That said, we also will refer students who may
have developed a dependency on alcohol or other drugs to appropriate resources in the community.
“The I in illness is isolation, and the crucial letters in wellness are we.”

Whether your interest is in positive health promotion such as safer sex, social connection, or stress management, or on prevention of negative
consequences to high risk behaviors, we are committed to ensuring you have a positive experience and are treated with dignity and respect.
The mission of the Wellness Center is to reduce high-risk behaviors related to alcohol and drug misuse and to provide sexual assault response and prevention services to all CWU students.
