| News: | Dr. Michael Ervin just returned from the Latin American Studies Association meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In addition to organizing and chairing a panel entitled "The Middle Politics of the Mexican Revolution," which included scholars from the U.S., Great Britain, and Mexico, Dr. Ervin also contacted colleagues who will help organize a summer institute for Washington State secondary educators this summer. The program, which will be partially funded by GEAR UP, will take up to twenty secondary educators to Mexico for nearly three weeks of study in Spanish, History, and Communication. Participants will spend four nights in Mexico City and two weeks in Oaxaca City. Events will include classroom Spanish and History study, tours of ancient ruins, colonial buildings, and modern marketplaces, as well as other assorted excursions including a cooking class in Oaxacan cuisine. For more information about the program, please contact Dr. Ervin. Leading the program with Dr. Ervin will be Dr. Rodney Bransdorfer (Foreign Languages) and Lois Breedlove (Chair, Communication). |
