News:Lila Harper's article "'The Starfish that Burns': Gendering the Jellyfish" has been published in the collection _Forces of Nature: Natural(-izing) Gender and Gender(-ing) Nature in the Discourse of Western Culture_ (Cambridge Scholars).

News:Lila Harper has been appointed Senior Bibliographer for the Modern Language Association's International Bibliography. Only accomplished bibliographers of long-standing are appointed to this position. She has contributed to the MLA Bibliography since 1996 and is also a Senior Contributor to the Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL), published by the Modern Humanities Research Association, housed at Cambridge University.

News:Lila Harper presented a paper titled “G. H. Lewes, George Eliot, and the Medusa at the Seaside” at the 2008 Modern Language Association national convention, San Francisco, Dec. 27-30, 2008. Also at the convention she chaired a panel on part-time stereotypes and was presented with a certificate of achievement for distnguished contributions made as a Fellow for the Modern Language Association International Bibliography, 2005-08 during the awards ceremony.
Name:Demaris Garceau  
News:Demaris Garceau finished her Master of Science in Resource Management in 2007. Since fall of 1995, she has been teaching writing and literture courses at Oregon State University, and the History of Science and Technology at Linn Benton Community College. At OSU, Demaris has taught Media Writing 201, Business Writing 214, Style in Composition 323, and Technical Writing 327. She also taught a course in Latin American and Caribbean Literature. Lately, she mostly teaches the Technical Writing courses, which she enjoys as she works with students in engineering, the sciences, education, and arts and humanities. She is still working on a novella and developing her prose poems. This year, she participated in creating a collaborative sculpture for Da Vinci Days in Corvallis, Oregon, and is planning to work on another collaborative kinetic sculpture for next year's Da Vinci Days. (Check out Da Vinci Days on the web--very cool!)

News:Dr. Toni Culjak has been selected to participate in the China Field Seminar July 3-24 in the People's Republic of China. The program, sponsored by the Asian Studies Development Program, Peking University, and the Chinese Ministry of Education, will explore historical sites, cultural representations, and performing arts in Beijng, Shanxi, Xian, and Shanghai.

News:Chris Schedler's article "Bugs in the Capitalist Machine: The Schizo Violence of Alejandro Morales's The Brick People." has been accepted for publication in MELUS (Multiethnic Literature of the United States).

News:Lila Harper presented a conference paper titled "What We Can Learn About Plagiarism from Master's Theses" at 57th annual Conference on College Composition and Communication in Chicago, March 22-25. Two conference blogs were written on the talk. And an expanded version of this material, "What Can We Learn About Plagiarism from Master's Theses?" (a slightly different title) was published in the peer-reviewed journal _Professional Studies Review: An Interdisciplinary Journal_ (St. John's University), vol. 2.2 (2006): 1-15.

News:Dr.Virginia Mack has been selected to teach in London for a quarter through the NCSA (Northwest Council on Study Abroad) program. Her appointment is for winter quarter 2007. Dr. Mack has travelled extensively in England and has offered spring break classes in Ireland for the past three years.

News:Judy Kleck and Joe Powell will be reading their poetry at the Pontoons' celebration of regional writers in Leavenworth on Feb. 25th. The invited readers have been or will be published in Pontoons' yearly magazine. The reading is sponsored by the Floating Bridge Chapbook series. Joe and Judy read at an earlier Ponttons' celebration held earlier this year in Richland.

News:Gerald Stacy recently published an article on one of Willa Cather's short stories. The article titled "Teaching 'Paul's Case,'" appeared in the Fall edition of Eureka Studies in Teaching Short Fiction. The Fall volume (6) was dedicated to articles on Cather's short stories.

News:Gary Rees (M.A. LIT 2005) has been admitted to the Ph.D. program in English at the University of Houston with an appointment as a Teaching Assistant and a $15,000 University Presidential Fellowship.
Name:Erik Chandler  
News:Erik Chandler (M.A. LIT 2004), who is currently in a Ph.D. program at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, presented a paper entitled "'With Additional Dialogue by William Shakespeare': Historiography, Emplotment, and The Black Adder" at the 28th Southwest Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Associations Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in February 2006. He is also writing a book review of James Liddy's "The Doctor's House: An Autobiography" that should be published in The Cream City Review this fall.

News:The English Graduate and Undergraduate clubs are holding a poetry reading and food drive on April 11th at 7pm in Michaelsen 126. The clubs are asking for donations of either one dollar or a nonperishable food item; the food will be donated to Ellensburg's Hope Source food bank. The evening's readers will include CWU students and faculty. In addition to the entertainment, food and beverages will be provided.
