News:Daniel Schreiner, Junior Music Education major, and Ben Lundgren, Junior Vocal Performance major, took second place in their respective divisions at the Intermountain Empire National Association of Teachers of Singing competition held in Walla Walla, WA Nov. 4-5, 2011. Both Baritones study voice with Vijay Singh, MUSIC.

News:Micah Parker, Senior Vocal Performance Music major, won 1st place in Division V of the Intermountain Empire National Association of Teachers of Singing competition held in Walla Walla, WA November 4-5, 2011. Parker, a Bass-Baritone, is a student of Vijay Singh, MUSIC and has performed in the Music department's top vocal jazz ensemble, choirs, and operas since transfering from Olympic College a few years ago.

News:Junior Music Education/Performance Trombone Major, Christopher Wall, won the Gold Medal in the Brass Division at MusicFest Northwest this past week, resulting in, among other things, a live performance of the first movement of the Lars-Erik Larsson, Concertino with the Spokane Symphony.This is an extremely prestigious and competitive competition encompassing the entire Pacific Northwest Region.

News:Clara Mannino, CWU music major and student of Dr. Hal Ott won the Northwest Music Festival Young Artist Competition. As a Young Artist winner, Clara will perform the Bernard Romberg Concerto for Flute and Orchestra with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, May 11 at the Met in Spokane.

News: CWU Trumpeter, Christi Wans placed third in the Tacoma Philharmonic competition. In the Young Artist Division she competed against other instrumentalist not just those in the brass family. Now in its fourth year, the Beatrice Herrmann Competition promotes excellence in musical performance, encourages young musicians in their pursuit of high artistic standards, and fosters a love for the performing arts in the community and throughout the Puget Sound region.

News:Vijay Singh, MUSIC, guest conducted the North Carolina Male Vocal Arts Symposium Men's Honors Choir Sept. 22-23rd in Greensboro, NC. The event was sponsored in part by the North Carolina chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Two of Singh's own compositions were featured at the concert.

News:Professors Chris Bruya, Mark Lane, and Vijay Singh, MUSIC, were guest conductors of the 2012 Washington Ambassadors of Music (WAM) performance tour to Europe in July 2012. The WAM entourage included 250 high school musicians from various parts of the state. Prof. Bruya conducted the WAM Jazz Band, Prof. Lane conducted the WAM Concert Band, and Prof. Singh conducted the WAM Choir. The groups gave concerts in England, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany in the course of their 16 day tour.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, guest conducted and adjudicated the Southwest Washington High School Honors Choir at Tenino High School May 10, 2012. Singh judged 10 high school choirs during the day and conducted the select Honors Choir comprised of students from each of the 10 participating schools.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, adjudicated at the Powell River Choral and Jazz Festival held in Powell River, British Columbia, Canada March 29-31st. Singh gave clinics to both concert choirs and vocal jazz ensembles in addition to adjudicating over 35 groups, and performed as percussionist for the pro group Groove For Thought (from NBC's "The Sing Off") which is comprised of 5 CWU alumns and two current CWU undergrads.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, conducted the 2012 North Dakota All-State Jazz Choir in Bismarck, ND March 22-24th. The program included a number of Singh's arrangements and vocal jazz compositions.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, completed a 3 day Artist-In-Residency at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks April 26-29th where he worked with Fairbanks area high school choirs, gave voice lessons/coaching to UAF students, performed a recital of Classical music, gave a vocal masterclass to UAF students, and performed a jazz concert with pianist Barney McClure.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, performed with jazz quartet Just 4 Kicks at venues in Sacramento and San Francisco, CA over the February 4-5th weekend. The performances were in support of Just 4 Kick's recently released album "Joyful Noise" which features a number of Singh's arrangements and an original composition.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, was featured guest conductor at the University of Nebraska - Omaha Honors Choir Festival in Omaha, NE January 5-6, 2012. Singh conducted a 120 voice honors choir selected from across the state of Nebraska. The concert featured a number of Singh's choral compositions.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, conducted the South Dakota All-State High School Honors Choir in Sioux Falls, SD October 28-29th. The choir was comprised of 1000 high school singers from across the state, and their performance was broadcast live statewide on South Dakota's PBS television station. The choir also performed 3 of Singh's compositions and combined with the All-State Orchestra to perform Beethoven's "Hallelujah from The Mount of Olives" with Singh conducting all 1200 combined instrumentalists and vocalists.

News:Vijay Singh, Music, conducted and performed with a cappella jazz group Just 4 Kicks at the 4th annual "Real Men Sing" workshop Oct. 1, 2011 in Everett, WA featuring 250 high school and junior high male singers. Singh also performed later that night (playing percussion) with the vocal group Groove For Thought (featured on last year's NBC show "The Sing Off") at Bake's Place Jazz Club in Issaquah, WA.
