News:Jennee Leavitt, 2012 BFA costume technician, has accepted a summer internship at The Village Theatre in Issaquah as a costume shop manager intern, where she will assist the costume shop manager get everything ready for the next year's season. She then heads to Phoenix, AZ accepting a position at Phoenix Theatre from August to May.

News:THE WEDDING SINGER, directed by David Gay, is honored with five Shuler Hensley Awards. The Shuler Hensley Award is for high school theatre and this year 39 high schools in the Atlanta area competed. Our Alpharetta High production of THE WEDDING SINGER was honored with nominations for Best Choreography, Best Supporting Actress - Lindsay Albano, Best Supporting Actor - Parker Rehklau, Best Orchestra, and Best Director. We also received a citation for having one of the best productions eventhough we were not nominated for Best Musical.

News:David Gay, a third-year Master of Arts in Theatre Production candidate, reports that his recent production of "Guys and Dolls" at Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta, GA garnered group and individual awards. "We entered an affiliate of the Jimmy awards - Shuler Hensley Awards," says Gay. "'Guys and Dolls' was nominated for eight awards. We won for Orchestra and our Miss Aidelaide moves to the Jimmy awards this spring. Keep your fingers crossed - the winner gets $100,000 to attend the New York school of her choice."

News:Best of Show at the Larson Gallery's 53rd Annual Central Washington Artists' Exhibition went to Alexandra Chaney, jewelry grad student. The show is open November 1 through December 6 at the Larson Gallery, 16th Ave and Nob Hill Blvd in Yakima (on the Yakima Campus). Congratulations Alex.

News:Ian Stacy has won this year's Best Overall Paper prize from the Phi Alpha Theta Northwest regional conference for his paper entitled "Under an Atomic Sky: Origins of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation's Infamous Green Run." As a result of winning this award, Ian is now able to present this work at the AHA-PCB conference, to be held in August in Pasadena. So congratulations to Ian!

News:The Museum of Culture and Environment at CWU opened its latest exhibit "Voices of the River: Life Along the Yakima" assisted by the talents of Theatre Arts scenic designer Marc Haniuk supported by Scene shop manager David Barnett, and Design and Production students Felipe D. J. Avalos and Erika Hinze. The theatre team "set the stage" for an outstanding exhibit by designing elements which unified an eclectic look at life on the Yakima River.

News:Samantha Armitage--Costume Designer--will return to Second Story Repertory's THEATER FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES as designer for PUSS AND BOOTS, which runs January 11-27, 2013. News:The Student Chapter of the National Art Education Association began the year with twenty-six majors attending the first meeting on September 28th; officers and committee members will be elected at the October 12th meeting. The SCNAEA participates in Ware Fare on campus and the NAEA conference in New York City.

News:The newly-formed, Nothwest Flute Consort (including the CWU Flute Choir and over 30 professional flutists from around the Northwest) will perform a free concert in the State Capitol Rotunda in Olympia on May 13 at 2:00 p.m. Hal Ott will conduct and has served as coordinator. The program is divided into three segments: world/folk music, classical music, and jazz (featuring some notable jazz flutists throughout the region such as CWU alumni Matt Schneider as well as Bob Esperanza, Tom Russell, Nancy Curtis, Ann Linquist, andFronda Woods). The variety of styles presented will certainly appeal to a large audience. One of the most exciting things about this program is the inclusion of three contrabass flutes.

News:The English Graduate and Undergraduate clubs are holding a poetry reading and food drive on April 11th at 7pm in Michaelsen 126. The clubs are asking for donations of either one dollar or a nonperishable food item; the food will be donated to Ellensburg's Hope Source food bank. The evening's readers will include CWU students and faculty. In addition to the entertainment, food and beverages will be provided.
