CWU Athletic Department Renews Contract With KXLE

August 23, 2002

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Jack Bishop, Central Washington University athletics director, has announced a renewal of the radio contract with KXLE Radio (1240 AM), Ellensburg, to broadcast all 2002 football games and 2002-03 men’s basketball games.

“The relationship with KXLE is vital as we continue to build upon the overall success of our athletic programs,” Bishop says. “With more than 7,000 students on the Ellensburg campus, and an equal number of alumni in Kittitas and Yakima counties, this access presents a great opportunity to further display our athletic success to all of them. I look forward to again working with the professional staff at KXLE as we develop additional shared initiatives.”

Brad Tacher, KXLE general manager, adds, “The NewsTalk 1240 KXLE family is excited about our continued partnership which gives us an opportunity to present Central’s first-class athletic events to our listening audience throughout central Washington.”

KXLE is Ellensburg’s first radio station, originally signing on the air July 19, 1946, as KCOW. It became KXLE about three years later.

The 2002 broadcast schedule begins on Aug. 30 when the Wildcat football squad hosts Fort Lewis, Colo., in the annual Rodeo Bowl. Kick off is slated for noon. The KXLE broadcast will begin at 11:05 a.m.

With the inaugural broadcast of 2002, Robert Lowery will begin his 16th year as “voice of the Wildcats” with CWU athletic Hall of Fame member, and former major league pitcher, Dave Heaverlo providing football color commentary for the 11th straight year.
