Admission into any Theatre Arts degree program follows acceptance into
Central Washington University from an accredited secondary school program,
community college or four-year institution of higher learning.
Applying for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programs:
Admission to the BFA is by audition/interview only. Auditions/interviews
are held each spring quarter, in mid-April for new students and in mid-May
for continuing BFA candidates.
Applying for the Bachelor of Arts (BA) program:
Many courses are open BA students who are welcome to complete the BA in
Theatre arts without auditioning. Students only need to audition if they
are applying for one of the BFA programs, however all students are welcome
to audition for scholarships.
Guidelines for BFA and BA candidates:
-All students considering a Theatre Arts major are encouraged to read
the Theatre Arts Handbook. When you are accepted into the major you will be required
to buy the most current edition of this book.
-Obtain a copy of the catalog under which you enter the degree. Use it
in consultation with your advisor to plan your academic career.
-Complete a Theatre Arts Major (BA or BFA) Application Form.
-Schedule a meeting with the Department Chair to discuss the department,
the Theatre Arts degree program, and possible courses of study within
the major.
-Take a department entrance exam as administered by the Department Secretary.
The purpose of this exam is program assessment. The test score is of no
consequence to a student's career at CWU.
-Following the application and interview process, all students are assigned
a faculty advisor. Students are required to meet with their advisor during
department advising day each quarter. Students may request another Advisor
at any time through the Department Chair.
-Majors receive an ID card, which allows for free admission to all department
productions.
Admittance to the Minor
The minor is obtained by completing 30 hours of theatre courses as outlined
in the course listing. Minors must have the discipline to become very
involved in the program so faculty members have an opportunity to work
with the student in production.
Applying for the minor:
• Obtain and read the student handbook
and the list of courses required for the minor.
• Complete a Theatre Arts Minor
Admission Form.
• Schedule a meeting with the department chair to express your interest
in theatre and to be assigned an advisor.
