In 2001 Jim Hawkins retired from Central Washington
University having served as an award-winning professor, director,
designer, master puppeteer and an advocate for children’s theatre
for more than 31 years. Through his immeasurable talents, whimsical
creativity, unparalleled wisdom, patience, compassion and kindness,
Jim has touched literally thousands of lives over the years. He
has awed the teachers, artists and puppeteers of tomorrow in the
classroom, and brought the magic of live theatre countless children
throughout the region.
Awarded to: A student who has demonstrated skills
and interest in the development of quality Children's Theatre in
areas of acting, directing, design, or playwriting.
Nature of the Award: An award of $500, award presented
to the student to be used for tuition, related to academic pursuits,
or expenses related to future projects in Children's theatre production.
Procedure: Nomination and/or applications for the award can be
made in writing by any student or faculty member which will be accompanied
by written statements describing the achievement and appropriate
goals of the nominee/applicant.
The Department scholarship committee shall consider all nominees/applicants
to determine the recipient, based on state criteria and university
guidelines for eligibility.
The award shall be presented at an appropriate public event, such
as the Department awards banquet.
