The Application Process

The Application Process
Applications are now being accepted. Application will continue to be accepted until assistantships and program space have been filled

To be considered for regular admission to CWU one must have:
1. completed a bachelor's degree from an institution of acceptable standing by the time he or she seeks to enroll
2. earned at least a 3.0 GPA in all course work attempted in at least the last 90 quarter (60 semester) hours of recognized academic work.

When there are mitigating circumstances, an applicant who did not attain a 3.0 in the last 90 credits of academic work may be considered for probationary admission. Applicants admitted in this status will be expected to earn a 3.0 GPA during the first quarter of enrollment. For more specific information about probationary status see the Central Washington University catalogue.

To apply for admission, one must obtain an admissions packet [by either downloading one from the website or by contacting the Office of Graduate Studies] and complete and submit the following admissions materials directly to the Office of Graduate Studies:

- Admission application
- Application
- Official transcripts from all universities attended
- GRE Scores - Three letters of recommendation
- Recommendation Letter

- Statement of Objectives

- Non-refundable application fee

In addition to the minimum requirements enforced by the Graduate School, the Theatre Arts Department asks that each applicant:
1. Provide a writing sample, preferably in the discipline, of at least five pages.
2. Have taken a full academic year of theatre history at the 300 level or above and at least one dramatic literature course.
If these courses are not fulfilled deficiencies can be completed during probationary admission. NOTE: Participation in undergraduate courses is not permitted without the required prerequisite course.

Admission is granted based on a department program admission index. The department program admissions index is a probability of success indicator that takes into account GRE scores, undergraduate coursework, GPA, evaluation of writing sample, recommendations, and the student's Statement of Objectives.

Applicants who do not meet the admission criteria listed above will be considered on a case by case basis for conditional admission only. Assistantships for conditional admission will be considered only in exceptional cases, and only after deficiencies have been satisfied.

The Assistantship Application is also required if you are seeking an assistantship. .
