Moliere is delightfully and skillfully translated into English
verse by Richard Wilbur in this adaptation of the Restoration comedy
Tartuffe. Orgon, a gentleman of means, manifests his mid-life crisis
by adopting a religious severity, much to the chagrin of his household.
Leading Orgon down the road to piety is his honored houseguest,
Tartuffe. The problem is that Tartuffe is a conniving hypocrite,
and, unlike Orgon, the rest of the household sees the truth. Unfazed
by the desperate warnings of his family, Orgon promises Tartuffe
everything from his daughter's hand to his family fortune. Through
a series of hilarious comic adventures the truth about Tartuffe
is finally revealed and, with some Royal intervention, goodness
prevails.
Most enjoyable for children over 13.

Auditions for "Tartuffe" were completed in spring 2004.
