| DEREK LANE (Associate Professor, Scenic Design)
teaches courses in design, production, children's theatre and general
theatre studies at CWU. He holds a B.A. in Performance from Seattle
Pacific University, and an M.A. in Directing (Child Drama) and an
M.F.A. in Theatre Design and Technology from San Diego State University.
Lane has received 13 meritorious Design Awards from the Kennedy
Center/American College Theatre Festival. Most recently he received
three Meritorious Design Awards for CWU's spring 2002 production
of Macbeth. Lane has also designed for regional and national television
programs including Renegade and Silk Stalkings.
He has worked professionally as an actor, voice actor, director,
and playwright --with 13 of his plays having been produced at the
community, university, or professional levels. He has designed sets
for the CWU productions of Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Cloud
Tectonics, Macbeth, Concrete Dream, West Side Story and most
recently Tartuffe. Lane also served as both scenic and
lighting designer for Oklahoma!, The Honorable Urashima Taro, Macbeth,
and How I Learned to Drive. He was lighting designer for Man
of La Mancha. Lane made his directorial debut at CTE with the
CTE Youth Theatre Tour production of, Charlotte's Web. Last season
he designed sets for Working and both set and lighting
design for Much Ado About Nothing. Lane is on a leave for
the 2006-2007 academic year and is teaching scenic design and art
classes in Portland.
