How to use this book
Welcome to Central Theatre Ensemble and the Theatre Arts department!
This book is designed to guide you successfully through your career as
a Theatre Arts major or minor. It will also serve to guide your participation
in the production season.
All of the procedures, policies, requirements, responsibilities, and regulations
crucial to a theatre arts department have been assembled herein. Please
take time to familiarize yourself with the important information that
follows. By doing so, you will be taking responsibility for your career
here, as well as your participation in both the academic and production
programs. If you are unclear about anything in this book, please feel
free to ask questions of the chair, your advisor, or any other faculty
or staff member. We are happy to help you find the answers.
Every Theatre Arts major and minor is required to own a current copy of
this manual, as is every person participating in any given production.
This manual is the required text for many Theatre Arts courses, including:
TH 166 Theory of Play Production and TH 301/401 Production Application
and TH 300/400 Rehearsal and Performance.
We suggest that, instead of trying to memorize everything in this book
all at once, you look at the sections and subjects that impact you as
you experience the program and/or production(s). The following is one
potential way to study and consult this manual.
Read the whole book once through. Familiarize yourself generally with
its contents.
Study Section 1 thoroughly, as it applies to all Theatre Arts majors and
minors.
When you get your cast or crew assignment, read through Section 2 (General
Protocol and Procedures). Then read Section 3 (Job Descriptions) it is
for everyone involved in the production. Finally, study carefully the
description of your job on the production team..
Return to the manual periodically; refresh your knowledge of the manual
with every production. When confronted with a problem or question, first
consult this manual. Then, if you can't find the answer, ask a faculty
or staff member to help you.
Although the faculty and staff have worked diligently on this publication,
errors or omissions are possible. If you happen to find one, please report
it to the Chair
Thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully study the contents of this
book. We hope you enjoy your Theatre Arts experience at Central Washington
University and we look forward to working with you for many years to come.
