Accuplacer

Information: The purpose of the ACCUPLACER test is to provide you with useful information about your academic skills in math, english, and reading. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine your course selection. You should verify with your advisor which Accuplacer tests you need to complete and where the results should be sent.
Testing Dates: Offered by appointment as a Proctored Exam.
How to Register: Call Testing at 509-963-1847 to set up a time. Prepay at the Cashiers office 509-963-2224. $25 for a proctored exam.

ACT

Information: The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in english, mathematics, reading and science. ACT Plus Writing includes the 4 subject areas plus a 30 minute writing test. CWU accepts the ACT or the ACT Plus Writing for admission.

ACT-R

Information: The ACT Residual is the same as the ACT described above but can only be used by Central Washington University or the Running Start program at CWU. This score will not be transferred to any other institution.
Testing Dates: Unless noted, the times for the ACT begins at 1:00 PM and examinees are dismissed at approximately 4:30 PM.

Certified Health Education Specialist

Information: The CHES examination is a competency-based tool used to measure possession, application and interpretation of knowledge in the Seven Areas of Responsibility for Health Educators delineated by A Competency-Based Framework for Health Education Specialists 2010. CLEP

Information: College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams test mastery of college-level material acquired in a variety of ways — through general academic instructions, significant independent study or extracurricular work. CLEP exam-takers include adults just entering or returning to school, military service members and traditional college students. There are 2,900 colleges that grant credit and/or advanced standing for CLEP exams. CLEP Website

Important Note on retesting: Candidates may not repeat a CLEP exam of the same title within six months. Scores of exams repeated earlier than six months will be canceled and test fees forfeited.
Testing Dates: Unless noted, the CLEP test is given all day from 8 AM to 3 PM.

How to Register:

To schedule a CLEP pay the $15 CWU fee to the Cashier's Office in Barge Hall room 108 (509-963-2224), then contact Testing Services (509-963-1847) to put your name on the roster. You must bring a credit card or number to the test site to pay the remaining CLEP fee of $77 at the time of the test.

Communication "Writeplacer"

Information: The "Writeplacer" exam is part of the admission requirements to the Dept of Communication major. Your Score will be based on your ability to express, organize, and support your opinions and ideas, not the position you take on the essay topic. WritePlacer is a direct measure of student writing skills offered as part of the College Board's ACCUPLACER program. Examinees are asked to provide a writing sample in response to a specific prompt. The student's response is scored electronically using an automated writing scoring tool.  Scores are returned within seconds. For more information see the Writeplacer Guide.
Testing Dates: The Writeplacer Exam is offered every Wednesday. Additional days and times may be available upon request.

Compass

Information:

COMPASS is an untimed, computer-based test designed to assist accurate placement into appropriate courses for Math and English. COMPASS offers tests in reading, writing, math. You will receive your test results immediately upon completion of testing, and your score report will include placement messages informing you what courses you should take and how to register.

The Compass test is given to students to place into English 101, Math 100C, Math 101, Math 130, Math 164, Pre-Calculus 153, Pre-Calculus II 154, and Calculus 172.

It is also used by Admissions in place of ACT or SAT scores for applicants 25 and older.

Transcripts of previous scores to be sent to another school will be charged $5 each.

Unless otherwise noted, the Compass is administered every Wednesday. The times for the test are 8:15, 8:45, 9:30, 10:00, 1:00, 1:45, 2:30 and 3:00. Other dates are available, please call scheduling.

How to Register: The Compass is a pre-pay test. In order to register you must pay first at the Cashiers Office in Barge Hall room 108 (963-2224). The cost is $25 per test. Bring the receipt to the Testing Office before the day of the test and we can schedule you for the next available time.

DSST

Information: Credit by examination. These credits are accepted by colleges across the USA. For a list of exams click HERE. Tests can be repeated after 90 days.

How to Register:
Pay the $15 CWU fee at the Cashiers office and bring the receipt to 125 Bouillon to schedule a test time. You must pay the remaining fee when you begin the test. Call Testing Services at 509-963-1847 to schedule. Other dates and times may be available.

General Educational Development

Information:

Many people who did not finish high school have the same knowledge and skills as those who did graduate. By taking and passing a series of five tests in Language Arts Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts Reading, and Mathematics adults can demonstrate they have acquired the same level of knowledge. Information about each content area and subtest is avaialable on the American Council of Education Website. The cost of the test is $85 which is to be paid at the Cashier's office in Barge Hall 104.

On the day of the test you will need to bring your receipt, valid photo ID, and all required paper work to Bouillon 125.

Applicants 16 years of age and under 19 years applying for a release to take the GED test and to receive a Certificate of Educational Competence may do so by contacting their home school district; they will be referred to the designated employee(s) for that district. The designated employee(s) must determine if the applicant has substantial and warranted reason for leaving the regular high school program per the Washington Administative Code (WAC). Applicant is released to take GED preparatory instruction upon his/her request.

Testing Dates:

The GED is generally given twice a month on Thursdays starting at 9:00 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. New applicants must arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. for the morning session and 1:30 p.m. for the afternoon session. Everyone else should be here 15 minutes prior to session start time.

GRE: Graduate Record Exam

Information: The GRE General Test measures critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study. The GRE Subject Tests gauge undergraduate achievement in eight specific fields of study.GRE Website
Testing Dates: All ETS tests taken from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM - 5 PM

Please go to the GRE Website and select ELLENSBURG as the test center to find a list of available dates. There are only 8 computers and they tend to fill up fast. Allow plenty of time before hand to make sure you can find an opening.

The test is offered every Monday except for holidays or when otherwise noted.

HOBET

Information: The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) is offered on the following dates. Score reports will be sent directly to the Health Human Performance and Recreation Department of Central Washington University unless specified. Sign up with LORI HAUSER (963-1098).

LSAT

Information: The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is a half-day standardized test required for admission to all ABA-approved law schools, most Canadian law schools, and many non-ABA-approved law schools. It provides a standard measure of acquired reading and verbal reasoning skills that law schools can use as one of several factors in assessing applicants. LSAT Website

MCAT

Information: Almost all U.S. medical schools require applicants to submit MCAT scores. Medical college admission committees consider MCAT scores as part of their admission decision process.

Test will be administered in Bouillon Hall room 125. Please bring your photo ID. You will not be able to test without one.

Math Placement Test

Information:

The General Math Placement Test (MPT-G) is directed toward students who have less than three or four years of high school math and who will be entering pre-calculus or general college-level math classes. Test content is aligned with the Washington State College Readiness Mathematics Standards, and a single college readiness cutoff is accepted at all Washington public post-secondary institutions.

The Intermediate Math Placement Test (MPT-I) is of the same level of difficulty as the MPT-G. It is directed toward students who have less than three or four years of high school math and who will be entering pre-calculus or general college-level math classes. The test covers Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Pre-Calculus I.

The Advanced Math Placement Test (MPT-A) is directed toward students who have taken at least three or four years of high school math and who wish to enroll in Calculus. It covers Intermediate Algebra and Pre-Calculus I and II.

Information: The PRAXIS SeriesTM Assessments provide tests and other services that states use as part of their teaching licensing certification process. PRAXIS I measures basic academic skills; PRAXIS II measures general and subject-specific knowledge and teaching skills; and Praxis III assesses classroom performance.PRAXIS Website

TOEIC

Information: The TOEIC is administered once a month for foreign students graduating with a degree. The TOEIC Listening and Reading Test measures how well you listen and read in workplace English. There must be 5 people or more in order for the test to be administered. You must arrive with a passport. Examinees will not be able to take the test and there will be no refund if they do not have their passport.

TOEFL iBT

Information: The TOEFL iBT test is an internet based test required for admission into colleges and universities where instruction is in English. In addition, many government, licensing, and certification agencies, and exchange and scholarship programs use TOEFL scores to evaluate the English proficiency of people for whom English is not their native language.You must arrive with a passport.

Examinees will not be able to take the test and there will be no refund if they do not have their passport.
