Where can I go?

You can study in over 45 countries around the world! You can even explore the United States through the National Student Exchange, which includes 110 different U.S. universities plus the U.S. Territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Do I need to speak a second language?

No! You'll find many programs in non-English speaking countries that are taught in English. In addition, we offer a variety programs in English-speaking countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

However, as the world becomes an increasingly global community, it is important to learn another language. Whatever your current proficiency, we encourage you to pursue language studies while at CWU either on campus or as part of a study abroad program.

What does it cost?

Costs vary depending upon the program location and length. Academic year, semester, quarter, summer, and spring break programs are available.

The good news: Most forms of financial aid can be used for study abroad, and there are a number of programs that offer scholarships.

Am I eligible?

Requirements differ depending on the program. In general, the minimum grade point average is 2.5. Some programs have language requirements. We look for students who are mature, flexible, and have strong personal commitment to studying abroad. Students are selected after careful review of an application, personal essay, letters of recommendation and transcripts.

Will I get credit?

Students are awarded credit for all CWU study abroad programs. Approved programs provide either CWU or transfer credit and may be applied towards major, minor, elective, or breadth requirements.

It is important to plan ahead in your college career for studying abroad to make sure that the credits and program fit with your academic plan. CWU's Study Abroad Advisors and your Academic Advisor can help with this.

I'm interested! Where do I begin?

To start learning about study abroad, come to one of the many Study Abroad Sessions held throughout the year. These sessions, along with our Study Abroad 101 Booklet, provide an excellent overview of the information you'll need to know about program selection, credit transfer, and financial aid.

You can also schedule a one-on-one advising appointment with an advisor who specializes in the region where you'd like to study. To make the most of your advising appointment, we encourage you to visit our resource library (located in the International Center), browse the website, and read through Study Abroad 101 prior to seeing your advisor. Our friendly staff in the International Center can also help you find additional resources specific to your country or university.
