Study Abroad

Introduction

Through the U.S. Department of State Exchange Visitor Program and in conjunction with established institutional agreements, Central Washington University offers opportunities for international students to study in the United States. Exchanges are short-term by nature and do not exceed one academic year. These are known as J-1 student exchanges.

Please note: Exchanges to CWU are only possible through pre-existing exchange agreements. Participation in an exchange program to CWU must be initiated through your International Office. Please visit your institution's International Office for more information.

Campus

The Central Washington University campus is located in the rural town of Ellensburg, WA. The campus is characterized by its small and friendly atmosphere, and by its strong international study program and cultural diversity.

CWU Academic Schedule

CWU is on a quarter based academic calendar, with three quarters available for international exchange student study:

Fall: Late September - Mid December
Winter: Early January - Mid March
Spring: Late March - Mid June

You will also need to attend a mandatory orientation session at CWU before classes begin. Information will be sent to you upon acceptance from CWU. In general you should plan to arrive at CWU the weekend before classes begin, but always check with an advisor.
